"Dropped by MOD CLOTH", Confederate Flag apologist Bernie Dexter size shames her Plus Size Customers

I believe the following and above words of this to be true covered under my freedom of speech and the first amendment of the United States of America:

(This is half of an earlier and longer post which has been broken up for clarity. For Bernie and Levi Dexter usage of Neo Confederate imagery and the Confederate flag please go here.)

Regarding her recent size shaming, Bernie Dexter back tracked to save herself only after there was a justified backlash against the below post. She waited a few days to not only delete it but to address it all and only because she had no choice as a merchant.  Her sad and transparent attempt at a "plus size model contest" and dithering attempts to not lose business has hundreds of her deluded followers sending her fawning and fat shaming support while many have rightly walked away. Along with the token contest Bernie Dexter has since posted dozens of photos of plus size women with cloying captions to bury the negative posts and has miraculously discovered how "beautiful they all are." One anticipates photos of her with black customers as her next PR move. Only an idiot would buy into what this insincere fraud is doing because Bernie Dexter's plus size "phobia" is nothing new.

She desperately wants to hide the fact that she discontinued all plus size in 2013 until around summer 2014 claiming "they never sell." Mod Cloth and Unique Vintage shoppers will note how suddenly most of her sizing dropped to XS to XL leaving the plus size customers who helped build her brand out of luck. Then she had no choice but to offer them again- not because she values or cares about her plus size customers but because she knew her business, which was already starting to decline wouldn't survive. One wholesale client who understood her specific plus sizing (which is inconsistently sized) while praising her everywhere as a devoted fan was kicked to the curb for her kindness and then was cyberbullied and libeled. Bernie Dexter lied on social media claiming that the seller was "selling counterfeit dresses." While her two biggest and long time online indie sellers (Jumbalaya and Bear Flag Republic) apparently bowed out. Her price gutting on Ebay has not helped her brand as well nor endeared her to wholesalers.

Mod Cloth appears to have dropped Bernie Dexter as of Fall 2014. Well done Mod Cloth!

Bernie Dexter's poor behavior on social media was clearly one factor.  Mod Cloth also allegedly walked away because she refused to be transparent about where her product comes from which is a non union labor factory in SoCal and according to an anonymous email we received and which was posted on another blog "Her "designs" are actual vintage pieces she sends to an illegal immigrant in California and she has her make her patterns for her. Lucy B does the same thing with this woman. This is done so she can save a buck and exploit this woman not because she has a "good heart." (At the time of posting, those of us at Pin Up Activist Blog were unable to confirm the veracity of this claim but we are working to see if there is truth behind it. The personal feelings of the authors of this blog is that the comment is most likely the truth.)

When Bernie Dexter was rightly asked by Mod Cloth for complete transparency as a vendor then used her old chestnut excuse of "they are trying to steal my ideas" to deflect the fact she was dumped and trashed them.

Prior to being dumped, Bernie Dexter also made a pitiful attempt to do extended sizing (2X to 4X aka size 18 to 24) for Mod Cloth when they made a graceful effort to accommodate plus size clients with better constructed designs. The result was  what looked like 9.00 worth of Michael Miller Socks The Fox fabric sewn into a shapeless sack with huge shoulders, dorky bow with a tacky patent belt added on which was returned en masse and allegedly had to be pulled off the website for shoddy, abysmal craftsmanship priced at 156.00. Two other attempts were made but the designs that looked passable in smaller sizes were not resized properly at all for plus figures. This m/o was most likely the cheapest, required the least effort and was the easiest money scheme for Bernie to wholesale to Mod Cloth with. Mod Cloth used to order her dresses in the thousands in Paula Prass and Michael Miller fabrics and was perhaps her biggest account. Bernie Dexter then blamed Mod Cloth for her appalling and poor design skills when she failed miserably and took no responsibility for.

Bottom line is that while some of Bernie Dexter's dresses are quality pieces this is solely due to the fact that Michael Miller and other fabric manufacturers produce all the fabrics of Bernie's most popular designs. She renames the fabrics to attempt to claim them as her own, designs almost none of her own fabrics, her social skills are horrendous and apparently she stands for nothing of political or cultural importance apart from the Confederate flag. So why does Bernie still have a following then? Perhaps she is simply pitied because she is so stupid. But stupid is not worthy of pity folks. Not when it size shames, cyber bullies and uses two faced tactics to save face. And certainly not when it promotes a symbol which unequivocally stands for the anguish of millions of American people of color, the poor and/or GLBT people.

A sickening flag and racist symbol casually "updated"  for waning size phobic rockabilly relics.

Are you disappointed by Bernie Dexter's claiming that "plus size gals don't spend much on clothing"? Then let her business accounts, clients and the people she buys her fabrics from know how you feel:
